The Merchant Processing Guru Tip # 24: Scams to look out for continued…
This has to be about the worst case I have ever heard of where a merchant is taken for a ride. I heard about a pizza joint not far from where I live that switched to another merchant services provider a few months ago. They did not get any of the deposits from their batches into their account and this went on for some time. Well, after several weeks of chasing this company they call yet again only this time to discover that the line has been disconnected without any warning.
I tell you this so you will be cautious when giving this critical part of your business over to someone you do not know. Crazy things can happen and if it sounds too good to be true, usually it is. Verify that the person you are about to enter into an agreement with is trustworthy and works with a reputable company. I have been doing this for years and I thought I had heard it all until this one. The only reason you would potentially have any issues with getting your funds deposited into your account would be a mistake made by someone when keying in the account information when your account is being set up. This is easily and quickly rectified and these days more and more fail-safes are being put into place to avoid even this happening. Please be very careful.
